Why Marie believes massage and yoga go hand in hand
“Massage clears toxins and reduces muscle tension as well as creating more awareness. With a deeper connection with yourself and relaxed muscle, when you are next on the mat you will be able to move your body in directions that will truly help restore its balance”
Different practices of yoga
Some people do yoga to learn to look within to have a deeper understanding of their body and themselves, while other want a toner and more flexible body. Whatever the reason is, massage will be able to help you along the way.
While we move our bodies into asanas we learn how our body moves and we create more space, more flexibility, more awareness… But sometimes we get stuck and reaching that bind seems impossible or it’s a struggle to hold that posture for more than two breaths.
The physical benefits of massage
When we practice yoga our bodies can become tired and achy from our practice and no matter how much we breathe and sweat, it might still need more clearing out of the toxins created by our active practice. Massage helps clear out these toxins and can help in the prevention of DOMs (delayed onset on muscle soreness). By mobilizing the muscles passively and increasing circulation massage can ease off muscle tension anywhere you felt it during your yoga practice; in your legs (oh that long warrior 3 hold!) in your neck and shoulders, arms, back…
By bringing awareness to your body during yoga, you might also have been aware of some tension in your body and no matter how much you breathe into that area you can still feel it! If that is you, then having a massage might be part of the solution to alleviate that pain. Having regular massages will loosen up your muscles, increase your flexibility and make your body more receptive to change. This can bring some true transformation in your overall posture and with more movement will help eliminate that pain.
But no true transformation happens without putting your mind into it!
If you like doing yoga because you like going within and learn more about your body, massage can really help you deepening your connection with your self. While receiving a massage, place your awareness where the hands of your massage therapists are. By doing so you can feel the quality of your muscles while they are passive. Having this awareness while you are having a massage will allow you to go places where you might not always remember to bring your awareness too. Our brains quite often focus on where we feel pain and tension and then we forget about the places in our bodies that feel good. Hence we often think about our bodies as an instrument that is painful most of the time rather than thinking about all the wonderful things it allows us to do, how good it can feel and that ultimately it is a tool to connect to our true essence. When we are placing our awareness in how good it feels when we receive a massage we can then rewire our brain to think about our body positively and with that different way of thinking our body will naturally find ways to get back into balance, since our focus is feeling good and not feeling the pain.
“Marie Gaboriau is a strong and sensitive massage therapist who takes care to treat each massage as a special moment in time. She practices listening carefully to the needs of the mind and body to find the right touch for each occasion. Melbourne’s loss is Newcastle’s gain.”
“I first came to Marie on a recommendation from a friend. With a busy executive, office bound job and lots of life pressures, I needed a place to relax and de-stress. Marie’s massages were just the right ‘tonic’. Marie has an innate ability to tune in very quickly with my state of being on each occasion and has been able to translate this effectively to her massage style. Every time I finish a session, I leave feeling profoundly relaxed, like I can walk a little taller, breathe a little easier and sense I am more connected with who I am. It’s hard to find to find a great masseur that you know understands the profession deeply, has a passion for it, is able to connect with you and gives wonderful massages. When you do, you don’t want to let them go. Thanks Marie for the last 4 years. I wish you every continued success. You deserve it.”
“Over the years I had tried visiting a few massage therapists, with disappointing results. I am very sensitive to any kind of deep pressure and prefer to avoid it, but when I asked the therapists to use only gentle pressure they seemed unable to understand what I meant. So I was delighted to experience Marie’s approach; finally I could experience the deeply relaxing and therapeutic nature of a really good massage, without suffering pain either during or afterwards. Marie listens carefully to me and customises her techniques to match my needs. She is clearly very experienced and very skilled as well as being highly intuitive. I also love her incorporation of Ortho-Bionomy techniques when appropriate to get the maximum release of tension. I always leave her sessions feeling deeply relaxed and more at home in my skin.”
