The days are a gettin’ longer and those memories of backyard barbies and swimming in the baths at 9pm that we clung to like a deceased loved one all throughout Winter don’t seem so far away anymore.
Check out some of these fantastic things to do to welcome in the sunlight:
1) Start using your window as an alarm clock
Watching the sunrise is one of the most humbling things you can do to start the day with love and appreciation. It’s still early days, so the sun is generally set to rise at around 6:30 but for those of you who are especially eager the best oranges and pinks usually show a little earlier. Ps don’t forget to look around you… sometimes the clouds are just as awe inspiring as the horizon.
2) Submerge yourself
Did you know that Newcastle is home to the largest ocean baths in the Southern Hemisphere meanwhile Merewether’s perfect right hand break has been afforded the status of a National Surfing Reserve since 2009. When it comes to stellar waves and shimmering turquoise waters, Newy really does produce the goods so it seems almost criminal not to get amongst it.
3) Get lost in the bush
While for some this may seem like a daunting prospect, Glenrock National Park offers some rugged bush tracks and serene coastal views. The best time to explore is in the morning or afternoon when its not too hot and the light slips through the trees, casting other-worldly silhouettes. This is also a perfect time to go adventuring as the wildflowers are beginning to bloom attracting a range of native birds and other fluttering beauties. Ps. Don’t worry- with the ocean visible from any peak you will never actually get lost.
4) Catch rooftop views
Last but not least, you know what these longer days mean… we get to watch the sunset while doing Yoga! Although it is super cosy getting stretchy in Winter amidst the candlelight, nothing beats holding tree pose and opening your heart to the rainbow hues across the horizon and golden reflections from the buildings below.
