March Student Spotlight
Meet Jodie, our wonderful Loftie friend!
Read on to learn more about this tencious mango loving yogi.
What is your favourite class at YOGA loft?
This is like asking me to pick a favourite child, lol!
Prana Flow, Friday 5:15pm with Cveta – closely followed by Stella’s 90min Power Vinyasa on Saturday & Steve’s 75min Wednesday night Power Vinyasa.
When did you first start yoga and what do you like most about the practice?
I first started practicing in 2007 when I lived in Mullumbimby in the Byron Shire. I started out with Hatha, then became obsessed with Bikram Yoga for a couple of years, before discovering Power Vinyassa…
What I love most about the practice is the time and space it opens up for me – in my physical body, mind and life in general. As someone with a tendency to overdo it, and burn through things, my yoga practice presents me with the opportunity to contemplate these behaviours, and more often than not, stop me in my tracks and force me to slow down, listen to my body; to then release, grow and improve in slower, kinder ways.
What do you feel is your most valued personal quality?
Tenacity, without a doubt.
What are you passionate about in life?
Being of service. I have been blessed with the means to complete tertiary studies and establish myself in a career that helps people seeking justice to reset the trajectory of their life, and affirm the common ground we all share, our humanity.
What is your favourite food/drink?
Mango and Coffee.
What is your most loved part of Newcastle?
The vast array of natural beauty we have at our fingertips, from the beaches, to the harbour, bushland & national parks, community spaces and so much more. Big enough to offer everything you need, small enough to still embody a strong sense of community & individual spirit.!
Do you have any words of wisdom you’d like to share with our readers and fellow Lofties?
Do the best with what you have and what you know at the time – then, let it go;
Be patient with yourself;
Don’t make decisions when you’re in a space of pain & anger;
Forgive yourself and everyone else;
Acknowledge every minuscule achievement;
Anything worse pursuing will take time and effort;
Pay attention to the messages that keep showing up for you when your on the mat;
Never give up on yourself 🙂
